DONE , my first drawing of Tomo Milicevic, awesome guitarist of my favourite band 30 Seconds To Mars, is finally completed. I'm quite pleased with it, even though I regret that I chose this paper. The drawing's not as detailed as my usual drawings (I blame the paper) but still, I like it. Though I nearly lost it while drawing the jacket (or whatever it is ), so I rushed that part a bit.
Time: About eight hours, I guess Size: 11.3cm x 17.5cm / 4.45'' x 6.89'' Materials: dorée - Profi-Block für Zeichnung + Skizze (= dorée - professional block for drawings and sketches), 170 g/m2 2H, 2B, 3B, 5B, 7B and 8B drawing pencils HB mechanical pencil (0.5 mm) kneadable eraser, ruler, blending stick and fixative reference (photographer was probably a fan, but I don't know who it is)
I think this looks great, lots of contrast. It's also really interesting looking at the WIPs to see how you've worked on it. I wish I could see a bigger image though, so I could look at the detail of the moustache and beard - looks like you've done a find job on those.
Sweet beardy Tomo [You did an amazing job on his beard, btw] Great depth of black. His mouth looks so three dimensional! It's less detailed than your usual drawings, nonetheless, it lacks nothing If I came across on this somewhere in the Internet, I would think it's a photo, really! 'Shadow play' is gorgeous! The bad choice of paper... sounds so awefully familiar
Thank you for your lovely comment, sweetie, glad you like it . You know, I sent Tomo the link to this drawing via twitter, but so far he hasn't responded . I'm gonna try it again this week.
The dumb thing is that I bought two whole blocks of this paper, so it would be a waste not to use it... Yes, the bad choice of paper is the next big problem besides the scanner that doesn't seem to like me. Oh boy, what big problems do we have .
You're welcome as always I've tried that once or twice and I gave up. Actually - according to one person - he's already seen my portrait of him, so I'm happy Scanners can be morons They scan too bright or too dark... Oh, two blocks! Maybe it should be your sketch book to try new things out?
Oh but that's great! Who is it that saw your drawing of him/her, if I may ask? So far I have only sent the copy of my drawing of Jeremy Irons to him (no response), gave my 'Here we are at the start...' drawing to the Mars boys for signing (weeeeeeeee ) and, as I said, sent Tomo the link to this drawing. I don't want to give up, though, so maybe (when I'm back from vacation) I'll send Jared the links to some of my drawings. I think he is more likely to respond to such messages.
... I don't sketch, not really... When I start sketching it always turns into a drawing. But maybe I should start? So, do you sketch?
I meant Tomo, sorry if I didn't write it clearly. Prints of a few of my drawings had been put in a special tribute scrapbook which was given to 30STM when they came to play the concert in December 2010. Here it is: [link] . One of the girls who were responsible for creating it, told me that they had a chance to meet Tomo and Shannon, so I believe all Martians saw my drawings back then But all in all, you're more successful
I'd say - Same here, I don't sketch. But sometimes I sketch for my little drawings from imagination, but that's all Sketching is a good thing, sometimes more tricky than usual realistic portraits drawn from a photo. You know - you have to be aware where to draw a line. But give it a try one day - as an experiment. I'd love to see what turns out
That's such an awesome idea (I mean, making a tribute sketchbook and giving it to the Martians ). I'd like to do that as well, but I don't know any other 30STM fans here in Switzerland, so I'd only do one on my own and that kinda is pathetic...
I sketch when I can't decide which reference I wanna draw. Then I take a sheet of paper from the waste-paper-basket and just very roughly (like 30 seconds per sketch) sketch the references. I then pick he one that feels right. Yep, I agree, sketching sometimes is more tricky that the actual drawing. Okay, if I ever should draw a sketch, then I'll upload it here, deal?
I'm sure there are more fans of Martians in Switzerland. Isn't there any Swiss forum or website when fans gather? It's very good you sketch like that, it's an excellent exercise for your wrist OK, deal!
You finished it! And it turned out so good! Of course, I wasn't expecting anything else, but still - good that you live up to my expectations! I actually like the fact that it's less detailed than some of your other drawings, because it makes it look more like a snapshot than a photograph (notice how I didn't use the word "drawing"? Yeah, that's a compliment), which I like. Well done on the beard (just admit it; you like beards!) and the hair, as usual. I am very impressed by the strands of hair on the side of his face, for some reason.
Thanks a lot . Yes I think so too, at least that's what I have the most problems with. I don't like drawing hair but here it was okay (blond hair must be really difficult to draw, luckily Tomo's hair is almost black ). Thanks again, also for the fave !
