Last August Dominika approached me with the idea of an art collaboration. Right from the start it was clear to us that we would draw our favourite singer, Jared Leto, and after a while searching for the perfect reference picture, we agreed to start our work in September. But due to a lot of work at University we both had to postpone it several times. She somehow managed to complete her part sometime in January – I finished mine on March 25th (at this point I would like to thank Dominika for bearing with me and for being so patient - I’m sorry I’ve been such a horrible collaboration partner). Apart from a very small preview of the still unfinished piece we never saw each others drawings ‘till they were finished.
I have to say, I found it difficult to draw only half a face… It sounds like a piece of cake, but when you actually have to draw only half of everything, then you realize how important i.e. a pair of eyes is to get everything else right in proportion. And since I’m right-handed, I had to turn the paper upside down while drawing because I didn’t want to smudge it. And also, I tried doing it the right way round in the beginning, but the drawing kept slipping away because I couldn’t fixate it with my drawing hand.
I screwed up the Triad necklace (and the scanner did the rest with the brightness of the forehead, so - as usual - the drawing looks much better in real life), but I’m very happy with the outcome . Hope you like it as well .
I would really appreciate comments and critiques, and don’t forget to check out Dominika’s part as well (just click on the right part of the image at the beginning of this comment )!
It's always a pleasure to critique Franziska's drawing. Now I'm especially pleased, because this portrait of Jared Leto is a part of our art collaboration, called Unity divides, division will unite
I gave 5 stars for Vision, as the drawing excellently reflects the idea of unity dividing and division uniting, or, in other words... our cool collab Someone might question Originality, because there are other half-portraits at dA, but I believe no one has executed such a collaboration with such a suitable title!
Franziska's technique is top notch as always. Her drawings might be easily mistaken with photographs. I love how the black areas are deeply dark, and how strong the contrast is. The contrast is my weak point, but she does it so well! But if I had to be picky, I'd say the only thing I'd change is the shading of the forehead - I'd shade it gently once again with some hard pencil, because it appears to be too light in comparison with the rest of the body - the shoulders, the neck and the chin are darker.
Impact. The description in dA Help says the deviation should blow mind. It does with mine
A few more things I'd like to point out: - amazing details, - great rendering of the stubble, it looks very natural, - an exact copy of the facial expression, - realistic tattoo below the collarbone, - soft, lifelike hair, - accurate proportions and perfect resemblance.
All in all, a marvelous drawing! Franziska's a very talented person and a wonderful partner to collaborate.
AHAHAHAHA!!! OMG I just saw this and was like "meh, it's just a photo.....", and then I looked at the materials used.... and HOLYSHMOWZOW!!!! (couldn't think of any other way to express my reaction )
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!?!?!! Everything is so accurate!!! The lighting, the shading, the reflections, the proportion, the expression...... ....the.... the EVERYTHING
Congratulations on some absolutely stunning collab work
